  • Looks delicious! I have a question. My nieces 10 year old daughter is a vegetarian and they struggle to feed her enough protein. She won’t eat dairy cheese and I was telling her about vegan cheese. What website could she go to get recipes? Or what cookbook would you recommend? I’m sending her a link to your blog as well for ideas although as a busy mom of 3,
she doesn’t have a lot of time to cook from scratch.

    • Hi Lori,
This is one of my favorite questions to be asked! As a whole-food plant-based eater, I like to get my protein from food like beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, and grains (e.g., quinoa, wild rice, oatmeal, shredded wheat, etc.). But homemade vegan cheese and meat are also great and tasty options. I love the vegan cheddar cheese recipe from lovingitvegan.com . I usually skip agar, and keep it creamy. It’s absolutely delicious! The vegan steak recipe from this site is also my favorite. I skip the marinade, and make my own, but this is so versatile. The vegan bacon I make with this “meat” is amazing! I’ve also tried several other recipes from this blog, and all have turned out great.

But in reality like anybody else I don’t always have time to prepare everything myself. So a few vegan store-bought products come in handy. A few items we like are vegan meatballs from Aldi, falafel from Trader Joe’s (frozen), Beyond burgers/sausages, CHAO brand vegan cheese, and PlantFare brand protein shreds (we found it in the frozen section of Costco Business; super easy to use and the texture is great!).

For general information regarding vegan-vegetarian related nutrition, I recommend nutritionfacts.org.

      I hope this helps!
